A Day Out With Mom

Tuesday’s are a great day to go to movies in town as most theatres have discounted tickets all day. Mom and I decided to make a day of it by seeing two movies and having lunch in between.

We chose the Mariemont theatre for two reasons: we can walk to it from Mom’s place and the small venue has a more personal feel. As an added bonus the buildings in and near the village square are all Tudor style giving the village a unique charm.

As you can see in the picture, the front doors of the theatre are very close to the street. When you step inside, there is a single register just a few feet away where you can purchase your tickets along with and snacks and drinks all in one place. The lobby area is small, as are the theatres. This makes it a short walk to get seated. This theatre is a great one if you’re with someone that has difficulty walking long distances.

We started our day off with Lady Bird. If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend putting it on your to-be-watched list as we both enjoyed it and found ourselves laughing quite often. It left us in the perfect upbeat mood for lunch. Today was a day for trying a new restaurant.

We went to a new restaurant in town, the Tahona Kitchen and Bar in Blue Ash.

It’s one of the newer style eateries that have been gifted to us by the mellenials. In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, you place your order and pay at the register, then go sit down and they bring out your food when it’s ready. They put the money saved from having sit down service into the food quality. And in this Mexican restaurant that really pays off in amazingly good tacos.

I had the regular (not spicy) chicken taco and the taco carnitas (shredded pork). Both were amazing. The meat was subtly seasoned and incredibly tasty. And the toppings were perfectly chosen to create some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. My mom had a shrimp taco and a cup of chicken tortilla soup and she was equally happy. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping in for a bite.

After lunch, we returned to Mariemont to see Darkest Hour, another really good film. If I were grading them, I’d give both films a B+.  All told, we had a wonderful day out. Until next time!
